The roll gives the names and occupations of 1425 people, both men and women, who were granted the right to vote in municipal elections during a period of political upheaval and change. Many of these newly-enfranchised citizens derived their right to freedom by birth or on marriage, and the roll gives the names of fathers, husbands and wives, allowing the researcher to build up a pattern of family and social connections, and providing the genealogist with valuable information from five centuries ago.
